As a family photographer in the Treasure Valley, I know how important wardrobe choices can be when you're planning to take photos. I also know the mental load of choosing what each family member is going to wear. Here are a few helpful tips I recommend to all my clients when choosing outfits for their session

Choose something comfy

When choosing your outfits, I want you to think about 2 things.

First, what will the weather be like? Being too hot or too cold during the shoot can make or break your photos, especially when it comes to capturing happy faces. Anyone who lives in Boise, ID or the surrounding areas knows the weather is unpredictable to say the least. Consider bringing an extra layer that pairs well with the outfit, but can be removed if needed.

The second thing to consider is texture and fit. Are the clothes soft? Do they bunch up easily or feel itchy? Do they allow for movement and fun during the session?

These are all important to consider when choosing outfits for you, and your babies. The goal is to pick something that we can run, jump & throw leaves in!

Think about the whole picture

Mix patterns and solid colors for the perfect look

I love patterns and flannels, and really who doesn't? However, if there are too many patterns or everyone is all wearing the same pattern it can make your photos less appealing. My recommendation is to have at least a 1:1 ratio with patterns and solids.

If you plan for everyone to wear solids, my suggestion is to have at least 2 different colors or shades. For example, if you are planning on wearing brown as a family choose a mix of light and dark browns or even tan.
