Documenting Family Time
There are some family sessions that just feel easy from the start, and the Ode family’s session at Kathryn Albertsons Nature Park was one of those evenings.
Carly, Cody, and their sweet three year old daughter Penelope met me at the park on a warm late summer evening, and we spent our time walking, playing, chasing bubbles, and enjoying all the little moments in between.
We blew bubbles, watched Penelope chase them around, and let her have fun with Mom and Dad. Some of my favorite images from their session came from those moments when she wasn't thinking about the camera at all. She was just being three.

Letting Toddlers Run the Show
Kathryn Albertsons Nature Park was looking especially beautiful that evening. The yellow flowers were blooming throughout the park and added the prettiest pop of color to their photos. Paired with the warm evening light, it felt like the perfect backdrop for a summer family session in Boise.
Of course, photographing a three year old means going with the flow. Penelope had plenty of energy and curiosity, so instead of asking her to sit still and smile, we let her be herself.
And bubbles were the answer!

Making the Session Fun
I love incorporating little activities into family sessions, especially when young kids are involved. It takes away some of the pressure of having to "pose" and gives everyone something to do together. Kids get to play, parents get to relax, and we get to capture the real smiles and interactions that happen naturally.
The Ode Family
Carly and Cody were so sweet with Penelope throughout the entire evening. There were lots of little hugs, laughs, cuddles, and playful moments that made this session feel like a true snapshot of their family right now.
That's one of my favorite things about family photography. It's not really about getting the perfect photograph where everyone is looking at the camera. It's about remembering what this season of life actually felt like.
The tiny hands.
The belly laughs.
The way your three year old wants to run everywhere.
The way your family plays together.
The Ode family's late summer session was full of all of my favorite things, surrounded by beautiful yellow flowers and the warm scenery of Kathryn Albertsons Nature Park.
I'm so glad I got to capture a little piece of this season for them.
