Dirt, Giggles, and Growing Up: Paxton’s Backyard Gardening Milestone Session
As both a photographer and a mama, I’m constantly reminded how fast the little moments pass — especially when it's your own baby growing before your eyes. This week, I grabbed my camera and took Paxton, my sweet 16-month-old, out to the backyard for a milestone session that turned into one of my favorite memories yet.
A Tiny Gardener in the Making
At 16 months, Paxton is all in on exploring. He’s curious, determined, and always ready to get messy — which made gardening the perfect theme. With a little watering can in hand and dirt-covered fingers, he went straight to work "planting" and patting the soil like a pro. Watching him light up over the smallest discoveries (a bug, a petal, a scoop of mud) was pure magic.
Why I Wanted to Capture This
This isn’t a big birthday or holiday. It’s not a fancy event. It’s just a breezy afternoon in our backyard — and yet, this is the kind of milestone that means the most to me. The chubby fingers, the wobbly steps, the way he scrunches his nose when he smiles... I know these little things won’t last forever, and that’s why I grabbed my camera.
Photos That Feel Like Home
There’s something beautiful about photographing your child in their everyday world. No props or backdrops — just dirt, sunlight, and real moments. These images feel honest and nostalgic, like a memory you can almost smell and hear when you look back at them years from now.
I’m so grateful I get to document Paxton’s story, one milestone at a time — especially the quiet ones like this, where joy grows right alongside the flowers.

If you're a fellow parent dreaming of capturing these sweet everyday milestones for your little one, let’s talk. Whether it’s gardening, baking, or just a walk around your neighborhood, we’ll freeze the magic of right now — dirt and all.

Why Documenting Childhood Matters: The Moments You’ll Want to Remember Forever
By a Motherhood & Milestone Photographer
As a motherhood photographer — and a mom myself — I know how quickly childhood slips through our fingers. One day they’re gripping your finger with their whole hand, and the next, they’re running through the backyard barefoot, calling your name with that little voice that won’t sound the same next year.
This is why I believe so deeply in documenting childhood — not just the birthdays and holidays, but the quiet, everyday moments that shape who they are (and who we are as mothers).

Capture the Little Years
The early years of motherhood are a whirlwind. Sleepless nights blur into busy mornings, and suddenly, the tiny newborn you brought home is learning to walk, talk, and climb onto the furniture. When you pause to capture these seasons through intentional photography, you’re giving yourself — and your child — the gift of remembrance.

1. They Won’t Be This Little Forever
Every stage — from gummy grins to toddler tantrums — is part of your child’s unfolding story. Documenting those details preserves their personality right now, before it changes again.
2. You Deserve to Be in the Frame, Too
As a photographer who specializes in motherhood sessions, I hear it all the time: “I’m always the one behind the camera.” You are your child’s whole world — and one day, they’ll want to see the way you looked at them, held them, and loved them through every season.
3. Photos Become Family Heirlooms
These aren’t just pictures for Instagram. They’re memories your child will show their own children one day. Investing in professional milestone and motherhood photography ensures those memories are preserved with care and artistry.
